The deepening recession and increasing unemployment has turned out to be a boon for online entertainment sites, reports the WSJ. Some sites claim business has never been so good, as more people with more time to kill are spending an increasing number of hours in front of the computer, looking for an escape. It seems the Internet has taken the place of movie houses, where many unemployed workers spent entire afternoons during the Great Depression.

Been worked with many bosses before, this  one gave some perspective about being good boss.

While reading one of the signs that employees probably hate you. It made me laugh. Have i ever done that..

“You never see people walk by. Employees would rather circumnavigate the entire office to get to the coffee machine or bathroom than take the shortcut past your door and risk being invited in.”

Never been boss before. But, if I’m ever gonna be one, I’m gonna need this.

But all along, I have consumed lot of user contributed new media content and made better shopping decisions based on new media content. In fact, kind of lost in the plenty of informations. On the related thought, Who’s gonna read more than two hundred comments (after moderation) of a given topic. Refer here to see how slashdot maxed out its comments limits. they switched to Int from Medium Int in their db but, how long?

At the same time, I have wondered about people who really contributed. People like Harriet Klausner, Simon Pulsifer, Robert Scoble, my favorite Vinnie Mirchandani and many others are real prolific contributors of thew new media. Men it is like sipping water every few hours. What would they do if we put them in remote area without laptop and internet?

In the era of new media, I found another pattern that if you want to be in bleeding edge in any given topic. just follow the at least two influencing people’s who effectively blog/podcast about it. You will get enough stuff to be in the edge. People like me, it is always interesting to see what is in the mind of others and just follow it or at least be aware of it. Kind of Monkey see, Monkey do. In addition, You’ll get know lot of genius peoples due to this new trend and technology which would otherwise impossible by 5 years ago.

As part of new year resolution, What would it take to be effective citizen of new media social world?
- Make use of all social networks or at least be aware of it. LinkedIn is really worth exploring it.
- Create your own avatar in Second Life and make use of it.
- Record a podcast about something.
- Enter something in Wikipedia. You should be knowing more better about your home town then anybody else.
- Youtube or Google Video. Put something. See the power of you tube here in spiceindiaonline.com. gotta love parotta.
- Put your two cents in whatever blog or article you read.

Hope i will be more connected in the social world in 2007 then in the past. After all, we, the humans are most intellectual social animals. Are we not?
